I agree with a lot of the things you said. I like your blog and I like the jokes you include in your posts. I agree with your thoughts on why Juli Briskman was fired. No employer would want to be represented by someone who is known for giving the president the middle finger. I know that if I was in the position that her boss is in I would think similarly. I'm not sure if I would fire her right away but it is understandable. I also agree with some of the things you said about Donald Trump. I too think that some of his actions are dumb and questionable, however I also think that he has done a lot as president. The American economy seems to be doing well and his actions seemed to have a large influence on the relationship between North and South Korea as they have finally reached agreements. I definitely do not support everything Trump does but I do think that he had done some good things.
I do not completely agree with you. I think you have the wrong idea of the #MeToo movement. The point of the movement is not to ruin the lives of innocent men or to remove men's rights. The movement is to expose instances of sexual harassment and to help protect people from it. I do not agree that this is a 'bandwagon' movement, the point of the movement is to empower women who are unable to come forward with their stories. Also, this movement is not anti-men like you make it seem, there are also men who are being empowered by the movement. I do agree with you in the fact that the movement is not always great as there are fake allegations. It is terrible to see people abusing something like this movement for their own personal gains. I respect your point of view and am not trying to talk down to you. I just think you need to learn a little bit more about the movement and to re-organize your thoughts about it.
I agree that these costumes can be seen as inappropriate or disrespectful to some people. It is hard to believe that these costumes are still being sold despite people speaking out about them. This is especially true for people who are part of the cultures that some of these costumes depict. I know I would not like it if someone was dressing up as a heavily stereotyped version of my culture. I don't think that this is simply a fad that will come and go in a short amount of time as these costumes have been in stores for a while. It really is a shame that cultures are being appropriated by these costumes.
Very nice introduction.
Although the advertisement is questionable, I think your stance on the situation is interesting. I do agree with the fact that people were overreacting to the ad. I also found it interesting that Lola Ogunyemi did not find the ad racist at all. I think it says a lot about social media as the actor themselves did not care or find it racist. Social media has a tendency to overreact to a lot of things. Despite this, I do think the ad was controversial and probably was not a good idea. Surely someone who was involved in the advertisements creation process would've said something about possible controversy.
I agree that things need to be done to reduce racism. I completely agree with the reasoning behind the kneeling during the anthem as it was a good way to create publicity and awareness about the racism issues in America. I think the kneeling was worth the controversy as it is for a good cause. All groups in America, especially those from African-American cultures, should be comfortable and should have equal rights in the country they call home. Hopefully more can be done to reduce racism around the world.
I agree that the concept of the older ads was messed up. It is not okay to show things like that in an ad.
I too thought the ad was racist at first, but I also realised that a lot of people overreacted when I did more research to learn more about the situation. I completely agree with your opinion in this blog. It is clear that people on social media are overreacting as the actor, Lola Ogunyemi, did not find the ad racist at all. She was happy to be in it and we should learn from that. Overall, I think people should spend a bit more time doing a bit of research before yelling at a company about an advertisement. Despite all this, the controversy is partly justified as it was easy to get the wrong idea from the ad.
